Qatar, Iran sign pact to boost defence ties

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence co-operation between the Qatari Armed Forces and the Iranian Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics was signed here yesterday.

The MoU was signed on the Qatari side by HE the Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Hamad bin Ali al-Attiyah and for Iran by the visiting Minister of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi.

Later the Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Hamad bin Ali al-Attiyah held a meeting with the visiting Iranian defence minister.

The meeting and the MoU signing ceremony were attended by a number of senior Qatari Armed Forces officers and Iran’s Ambassador to Doha Abdullah Sohrabi.

Separately, HH the Heir Apparent and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday received the Iranian defence minister at his Emiri Diwan office yesterday.

During the meeting, the Heir Apparent reviewed with the Iranian Minister bilateral ties as well as the latest developments in the region.
