DEFENSE AND TECHNOLOGY -- Turkey prepares to build second aircraft carrier dockyard
Preparations are being carried out for the construction of a dry dock for the production of aircraft carriers, news channel CNNTürk said .

The 370-by-70-metre dockyard is being constructed by İÇDAŞ, a firm that has been involved in shipbuilding since 1880, and will be completed in 2019.

The $50 million privately-funded dry dock, when completed, will include Turkey’s largest metal machining plant.

A carrier being marketed as Turkey’s first aircraft carrier, TCG Anadolu, is due to be delivered to the Turkish navy in 2021 by Sedef Shipyard in Istanbul.

The TCG Anadolu, described as a “mini aircraft carrier” by Turkish state news agency Anadolu, is a Landing Platform Dock (LPD) ship.
